DIY Toy Storage Crates Nursery

Another nursery DIY! Does this mean that 9 month old Colette has a completed nursery finally?
No... She has everything she needs, just not all the cute, carefully curated items her awesome Mom finds and makes for her!  But, I am on the road to getting there and I finally knocked one DIY off the nursery list- a toy storage crate!

Materials:

Unfinished Wooden Crate
Sandpaper
Primer
White Paint
Roller brush
Paints in color of your choice
Paint brush
Sealant
Casters
Screws or Nuts & Bolts
Spray Paint
Drill

The before pic! I picked up the wood crates at Michael's- they are a great deal with their weekly coupon.

For the design,  I was inspired by the Ferm Living Half Moon Laundry Basket for the sides of the crates.  See how they are all different sizes and kind of half faded, etc?  Well, that matches my freehand painting skills (or lack thereof) and I thought it would look great on the crates! (Poet, didnt know it...)

I decided on a kawaii face for the fronts and back of the crates.  This is a fun part about having kids- you can go crazier and cuter with your designs than you would in your living room.

How To Make Toy Crate Storage:
1) Lightly sand wooden crate.
2) Apply primer (or a paint & primer mix)
3) Paint.
4) Let dry and paint faces and side designs onto crate.  (I used craft paints on this step)
5) Spray paint (use a spray paint & primer mix) casters your desired color.  Casters came in both black and grey at my Home Depot, but I wanted pink!
6) Screw casters into the bottom of the crate.

Fashion Crush: Fall Favorites

I have not done a fashion crush in sooo long!! I am reluctant to buy new clothes when pregnant and with postpartum weight, so "window shopping" just makes me sad.  Now, I am nearing my pre-pregnancy weight (although these last few lbs are being stubborn jerks) but I am sooo close to a much needed new wardrobe.

This slouchy sweater looks uber comfortable.

Pink tassel neclace- I own a similar one and get compliments every time I wear it.  The biggest fan is my 8 month old who likes to chew on the tassel. Win-Win.  Also, neon pink is not just for Summer. Pink is year round, baby.

Skinny jeans are a fall/winter staple- super easy and chic. Throw on boots and a sweater and I am out the door.

Navy blue nail polish- Nails should also transition to Fall- my nails are currently navy with one pink (I couldn't leave the pink behind) , I am loving the dark color and may take the leap to black soon.

Dolce Vita Heels- Shoes. My favorite. Although I wanted a cute bootie for the inspiration board, I just fell in love with these heels.

Marble is not just a home design trend.

Ok, I lied, purses may be my favorite. This purse from Anthropologie looks big enough to hold all my baby supplies and my heart.

Terrain has these gorgeous crates filled with pumpkins and gourds in a rustic wooden box.  I heart Fall and this would be such a beautiful surprise at on someone's (mine) doorstep! Just look at those red gourds!!

DIY Gold Scalloped Napkins- gold, scalloped edges- huge fan! It does requiring sewing, but I am sure I can figure a way out of that...

Obsessed with these dremmel etched glasses from Monsters Circus

Happy Birthday String lights are awesome

Black manicure and a bunch of midi rings may have to be my fall go to.

Neon Pink Halloween!

I found a fun new diy supply!  On one of my many trips to Home Depot- I came across flagging tape- you know that bright vinyl tape used at construction sites? Well, it comes in every neon color! For only $2 and a huge roll and PINK neon, I picked it up.  I have had it for months, but this was my first use.

Materials:
Scissors
Pumpkin
Tape (flagging tape is non adhesive)

For the pumpkin, I just tied the flagging tape around it. I used the tape to create the neon background.  My wall is a bit textured, so double sided tape did not hold well, but regular Scotch tape did the trick.  I L-O-V-E the neon background.  I think it would be such an easy party or photo background!

Happy Halloween!  Enjoy a pink version ;)

DIY Painted Antlers

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the antler arrival and I asked if I should keep it natural or paint it.  The responses were mostly for painting but I was actually leaning towards leaving it natural.

Then reality came crashing down-  my 8 month old knocks down and chews everything on her level and my 3 year old's toys litter my coffee table (and are knocked down and chewed on by the 8 month old).  So, my original place for the antlers was out.

I decided it would go in my office and thus unreachable from the 8 month old.  And, if it is in my office- it MUST have color.  Thus, I painted the antlers.

This isn't so much a DIY with step by step instructions, as I went with what design I felt like and now want to paint all the antlers everywhere in different designs.

I used washi tape for my lines and painted with neon pink craft paint and gold liquid leaf.  I took a quick snap while painting instead of my usual proper blogger photos. (also, I sealed it with spray sealant)

I use a mask when I paint the gold leaf because I am still nursing and super paranoid cuz the fumes are like woah.  Liquid gold leaf was only one coat, the neon pink paint required 3-4 coats.

I purchased the antlers via The Organic Antler for only $25.  I am extraordinarily happy with my new art piece for only $25 (we all know I already had the neon pink and gold leaf paint at home, so that was no additional cost ;)

The painted antlers are a huge pop of color in my office. Now that the antlers are painted, I cannot believe I ever wanted to leave them natural!
