received a Must Have Box from the awesome people over at POPSUGAR this week- and I loved it. I was not required to write a blog post- but it was so good that I wanted to include it in my favorite links this week!

The scarf is 100% modal, which apparently means the softness of a fluffy cloud on a mild spring day- I want to rub it on my cheek all day long- is that weird?
The pencils were my next favorite- they are SO cute!!  Nicole Miller earbuds?  Rifle Paper cards? Organic, healthy brownies? and so much more... The Must Have Box is $40 a month and the scarf alone has a $125 retail value - so the box is an awesome deal- they also sent along a promo code for readers (which I will be using for myself, lol)

POPSSUGAR Must Have Box

Code: SEPT14SELECT
Type: Save $10 on a 3-month subscription
Start Date: Today
End Date: 9/30 at 11:59pm

Onto the links of the week:

I love The Crafted Life's pink marbled vase, so gorgeous!

Macaroon erasers are so cute- but I kinda want to eat them...

Bacon Kale caesar salad. About time someone combined kale and bacon.

It is a little too early for Halloween crafts, BUT I could not resist these monster smores!!

And, yes, it is totally fine to mention kale and smores in same blog post.

A Bubbly Life this week- No Sew Star Pillows  and Glitter Bow Magnets for PBteen

POPSUGAR provided me with a complimentary POPSUGAR Must Have box. The opinions I have shared about the box are my own and POPSUGAR did not tell me what to say or how to say it.

DIY No Sew Star Pillows Nursery

I love star pillows and I never took the money plunge to buy some. Since I cannot sew, I thought it was a lost cause and would just purchase one eventually- but I wanted like TEN.  And ten star pillows are expensive.

Why do I want ten? Well, I imagine my girls playing in forts and throwing them at each other as they pretend they are pirate ships fighting.... My siblings and I did that growing up and it was just SO much fun.  Cabbage Patch Kids were the scariest ones to throw... if that hard head hit you, you were O-U-T out.

So, I devised a no sew solution! No sewing is my favorite.

How To Make No Sew Star Pillows!!

Materials:
Fabric in desired colors & material
Star Template (You can freehand one (but I am terrible at drawing) I used a paper mache star box top I owned for another diy that I never did... I need to get to work on that one...)
Chalk
Fabric Scissors
Fabric Glue
Clothespins
Pillow Stuffing (not pictured, it did not fit on my material board ;))

Trace your template onto fabric.

Cut out your stars! I was able to cut through 6 sheets of fabric at a time, for three pillows each cut.

Take two sheets of the star and glue all but one side together.  Let dry OVERNIGHT.

It bonds much better if you leave for several hours, it is important to have a strong bond because the next day you- Stuff your pillow!  (if the glue bond is weak, you can break holes in pillow and have to re-glue (Yes, I did learn from experience).

Glue the opening together and close shut with clothespins.  Let dry!

I am a terrible "cutter"; like handwriting, my talents are that of an 8 year old.  So, I am not just saying this because I cannot cut and have some kind of amazing positive spin on things- But I LOVE the haphazard look of some of the stars and the fact that each one is a bit different!

OR maybe they do look quite terrible all haphazard and whatnot and I do put a positive spin on everything, but I love my happy little life and my star pillows!  Plus, they cost me less than $10 and I have a lot of fabric and stuffing leftover to make more!!

Kalia now understands Mommy works and wants to be a part of everything because it looks fun, she insisted on being in some of the pillow pictures:

Hope you enjoy!!

Chili Rubbed Scallops With Pineapple Salsa & A Virtual Dinner Party!

Chili Rubbed Scallops With Pineapple Salsa & A Virtual Dinner Party!... Otherwise known as longest blog title post ever ;) ...

Anyhoo, Krafty Kath and I had a virtual dinner party- an end of the Summer Fiesta!! I met Kathy back when she wrote a guest post during my "maternity leave" and we became bloggy friends in the process!

She mentioned a virtual dinner party back when I posted a pic of pineapple salsa on Instagram and I loved the idea!!  We thought the scallops should remain the main dish as it sparked the partnership.

We each had to create and surprise each other with a diy we made for the dinner party.  I received Kathy's package a couple days before she got mine.  I laughed so hard- we both made runners! Creative minds think alike!  I originally was going to make drink stirrers and a candleholder, so it was funny that the twist and turns I took brought me to the same table runner conclusion.

And here is her amazing DIY table runner!

Kathy's table runner is perfect for a summer fiesta- I particularly loved all the pom poms she attached!! Kathy has all the diy details on her blog today for the table runner!

The table runner I sent Kathy will be up on the blog soon (the final product is on Kathy's blog!) !

But, seeing as it is the end of Summer, I want you to get the chance to make these scallops before pineapple is out of season!

Chili Rubbed Scallops With Pineapple Salsa

8 scallops
Chili powder
Sea salt

Pineapple salsa:
2 cups of diced pineapple
1/2 cup finely diced red onion
1 jalapeƱo, seeds removed, finely diced
2 tbs of chopped fresh Mint
Half a lime
Chili powder
Sea salt

For scallops:
Turn burner on high and add a tablespoon of olive oil to a frying pan large enough to hold scallops without crowding them.
Rinse scallops and pat dry.  Season with chili powder and sea salt.
Make sure pan is very hot (a water drop can tell you) and add scallops.
Do not touch for at least two minutes! We want that perfect sear ;)
Flip and cook for 1.5 more minutes.
Remove from pan.

Pineapple salsa:
Mix first 4 ingredients.  Squeeze juice from the lime and add chili powder and salt to taste.  (can be made in advance)

And serve while scallops are warm!

Thank you Kathy for having me, I had so much fun!!

Happy Birthday in A Box!

I had so much fun with this post- Today is my birthday!! So, I did a birthday in a box for me!  Which means pink, gold, confetti and champagne blew up everywhere.  Which is awesome.

I think these little treats are such a great gift.  It is a way to recognize someone you love for their birthday without breaking your budget.  A few of their favorite things, add a balloon, confetti and candles and you are good to go!  (Presentation is a must!)

If white nail polish is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I am a lip gloss addict.  I have 3 in my purse at all times and should I forget any when I switch out purses,  I have been known to stop and get more lip gloss on the way to where I am going.  (it drives my husband kind of nuts, love you honey...)

Roll up some crepe paper with little sayings and tie them with some gold confetti.  Instant party when you unroll them!

Pink champagne and balloons are more of my favorite things...

No time for a birthday box?

You can ditch everything- I am totally fine with just the pink champagne.

Cheers to all the September babies- there are so many of us!

Use for bachelorette favors, ask your bridesmaids, wedding shower favor- and fill it with any goodie you like!

P.S. do you know Party City now sells 36 inch balloons!? $12 for 6 of them- made.my.day.

Shutterfly Baby Nursery Pillows & Frame DIY

I am so excited for this post for two reasons.  One- I got to work with the amazing brand, Shutterfly, to create beautiful nursery decor.  Two- these are the first glimpses of Colette's nursery I have put on the blog. She is 7 months old, I am way behindddd with updating you!

For my inspiration I browsed Shutterfly's baby announcements-  Two of my favorites were the Hello talk bubble announcements and glitter gold frame announcement (glitter, gold & I? I am sure you are surprised... ;)

I did two versions of a Hello talk bubble pillow. A Hello Baby! pillow that would make a great gift anytime before or after baby is born. The second pillow is a Hello with the new baby's date of birth   and a very personalized after the baby is born gift!

How To Create Your Own Nursery Pillow on Shutterfly:
From the Pillows decor section, choose the photo gallery pillow (both my pillows are 16X16 dimension)
Upload the image you want (downloads here) and click Add to Cart.  You will receive a warning that a text box or photo has been left empty, press Ignore and you can add to cart!  I included both the pink and blue Hello Baby images and a .psd file if you are able to edit to write in your own date.  If you cannot, feel free to email me!

Now onto glitter and gold!  I loved the acrylic photo blocks and added a little color to the edges for a quickie diy.

DIY Acrylic Frame Gold Leaf & Glitter

Gold Leaf Materials:
Gold Leaf adhesive
Gold leaf
Two Paint Brushes

Glitter Materials:
Mod Podge
Brush
Glitter
Clear Gloss Enamel Spray

The instructions are very similar:

To gold leaf the side of your acrylic frames, brush on gold leaf adhesive.  Wait 20-30 minutes and then apply gold leaf sheet.  Use the second brush (the one that did not touch the glue) to rub gold leaf down, as seen here:

Remove sheet and you are done!

To glitter the side of your frames, brush mod podge onto frame edges.  Apply glitter immediately (no waiting like the gold leaf) Shake off excess glitter and using a clean brush you can brush away any glitter that fell on non-mod podged part of frame.

To keep glitter from shedding (important in a nursery!) Finish the glitter sides using Clear Gloss Enamel Spray (found in spray paint department).

Colette's nursery is pink and aqua themed-  I chose a pink flamingo and an aqua blue heart for two of the acrylic blocks. The acrylic blocks work great as bookends.

And here they are not in use as bookends- adorable!

Also, I did not forget Colette's birth date, I used the date of my best friend's baby to surprise her with a gift!

I love the girl's baby pictures in the acrylic blocks and want to keep them in nursery, but my husband will take them to his office, he almost took them before I was able to take these photos! He likes them so much better than a regular picture frame (and now I know how to do all his future gifts...)

So, there is a little glimpse of our nursery- the chair is Kalia's- her very own rocking chair in the room for those long days in the beginning of frequent nursing her sister.  I wanted Colette's nursery to be a fun place for Kalia to hang out in as well! The books are some of her favorites too- Blue Hat, Green Hat- I love that book!
