We Just Click- Nick & I (& Win Some Diamonds ;)

*Sponsored by Helzberg Diamonds*

Nick and I have been married over 9 years and have been together for 17! (How are we old enough for that!?)

Helzberg Diamonds asked me to share 3 photos that represent how we click-  It has been awhile since I did a personal post- so here we go!

Military. The times we were apart through 8 years of military life make us more appreciative of the time we have now and the moments we get to experience together.  We experienced loss, hardship, 6 or 7 or 8 moves (I forget, lol) lived in Hawaii (a dream we did not even know we had), met some of our bestest friends and developed a deeper bond through the highs and lows of military life.  This picture still makes me tear up...

The day Nick came home from 1 year in Iraq

Parenthood. Nick as a Dad is just the coolest thing ever.  I did not think I could love him more... then he became a father... And little Kalia has him wrapped around her tiny little finger.

Kalia when she was first learning to walk!

And finally gratitude.  Nick &  I recently started writing our thanks to one another everyday.  Our lives are very busy right now- pregnancy, toddler, careers, MBA, Nick's constant travel and in the mess of it all, we forget (or me I should say, I am exhausted at the end of the day, baby has taken over the host body) how much we do for each other.  I started writing it down so he would know.  Marriage is work, the good kind of work, and reminding Nick how much I appreciate him is the least I can do.  It is fun to see what we write each day- and it is often very mundane- taking out trash, dishes, etc, but it makes me smile everyday.  He wrote me one the other day as a Thank you for my little notes:

Another reason we are meant to be- we both have terrible handwriting, ha!

What photos represent how you and your loved one click? Share them and you can win $1000 towards MyDiamond collection from Helzberg Diamonds!

Need an engagent ring?  Perfect timing!

Contest Info:

Visit Helzberg and share 3 photos representing your relationship. It can be a photo of the two of you, a significant time or place or a special memory, whatever makes your journey picture-perfect! After uploading three photos, provide one caption that is ten words or less.

DIY Gold Glitter Leaf Place Cards

Continuing in my series for my Thanksgiving table- are leaf place cards! You have probably seen all kinds of versions on Pinterest- and here are mine- with glitter ;)

How to Make Leaf Place Cards

Materials:
Plastic Leaves
White Spray Paint
Glitter
Mod Podge/Glue
Brush
Gold Paint Sharpie
Clear Gloss Enamel Spray

Living in Arizona, I do not have access to fresh leaves, so I picked up some plastic at the craft store.  However, this way they will last for future events!

Directions:
- Spray paint white, let dry
- Write your names with your paint pen (a gold leaf pen will not work on top of the spray paint)
- Brush mod podge (or glue) on edges, glitter, then do the glitter shake and get rid of excess
- Spray with clear gloss enamel (in spray paint section at your home improvement store) to keep glitter from getting all over your table!

There is more to come for a gold glittery Thanksgiving, hope you enjoy this easy little DIY!

Fun- I know babies do not need alarms... but wouldn't PB Teen's bunny clock look adorable in a nursery?? I pinned it to my nursery inspiration board, I am thinking about it!

Fashion- According to pretty much everyone, cobalt is huge for Fall.  Being pregnant, I do not really buy any new clothes, so I think Essie's cobalt nail polish is right up my alley- LOVE it!

Foodie-  Jaime Olivier's chicken in milk sounds to die for... I planned on making it this week, but Phoenix was 90 all week! As soon as the weather gets colder, I am making this one!

DIY Gold Confetti Placemats

These are so simple to make and I love them!  I was inspired by the confetti paper placemats I spotted over on Waiting on Martha, paper placemats just sounded too wasteful for me and I loved the look- why not make something more permanent?

How to Make DIY Confetti Placemats

Materials:
White Placemats (I found mine at Bed Bath & beyond, I looked everywhere, apparently white is not a popular color for placemats!)
Paint
Pencil with intact eraser (chew marks & patriotism not necessary)

Directions:
1) Dip your eraser into the paint, apply to placemat.
2) Repeat until done.

Lol, easy, right?

Ridiculously easy... I decided to go with the same look for the paper placemats and leave the intended plate section empty.  You can do the whole placemat- but I really like how it looks this way!

*Some Things I Tried*
Gold leaf pen- fail- came out too dark, if you found a much lighter white, it might work
Paint pen Sharpie- same issue
Spray Paint-  I would not be able to wash it & reuse it, so I did not test it, but would be more metallic.
* I have read you can wash gold leaf pen- I have not tested it yet and plan to for a future DIY & will let you know!

I am having a small Thanksgiving this year- just my parents- I am SO excited for it!
I love cooking Thanksgiving dinner, but I usually do it for 10-14 people.

I will be nearly 8 months pregnant, so cooking for four (plus Kalia) is much more doable- and means I can go all A Bubbly Life on decor.  And, yes, I use my blog name as a verb in my non blogging life.  Friends and family get excited when I say- "Oh, I am so A Bubbly Lifing that up..." (or so I like to believe they do, haha)

So, Mom, these are the placemats, try not to spill anything ;)

A Bubbly Life elsewhere-  10 DIY Fall Wreath Ideas on Wayfair

DIY Glitter Acorns & Fall Wreath Inspiration

Looking for fall wreath inspiration?  Wayfair rounded up a group of bloggers, including me, to decorate their Grapevine wreath.

Being the glitter, sparkle lover I am- I added some glittered acorns to the wreath.  They are so easy to make and these acorns will make two more appearances on ABL, I just love them!

A sneak peak is below! To see the final wreath and get inspired from other bloggers- check out Wayfair's slideshow.  Thank you Wayfair for having me!!

Keep scrolling for the complete DIY to glitter your own acorns!

DIY Glitter Acorns

Materials:
Acorns (I live in AZ so I purchased plastic ones, by all means, forage in your area for the real ones!!)
Craft Paint
2 Paint brushes
Mod Podge
Glitter

Instructions:
Paint the bottom half of the acorn.  I needed 2-3 coats, but the natural ones you may need less.

Once the paint is dry, use the clean paint brush to mod podge the top.

Glitter the top, do the glitter shake, removing excess and let dry!

This is in no way sponsored by Martha Stewart- But I highly recommend their glitter when you need fine glitter- it is by far my favorite and the best around.  And I sorta consider myself a glitter expert ;)
I can link to my 20 or so glitter DIYs, but I do not want to bug you!

Happy Fall everyone- and remember- glitter is NOT just for Christmas!

A Bubbly Life is on FacebookTwitter Pinterest & Instagram- I would love for you to join me there!

Disclaimer: I was provided a wreath by Wayfair to decorate for their slideshow- all opinions are my own and I was not required to do a blog post- it was my choice to share the glitter acorns- it was glitter-  I had to share!

DIY Storage Container- 5 Minute IKEA Hack

I am in the middle of organizing and setting up my craft room (trying to get it done before baby- ahhh!)  and I need everything I can get- storage, shelving- you name it.  Last week, I made the journey to IKEA sans Kalia and Nick- which means I got real work done ;)

I filled up my cart with many things off my list and then hit up the clearance area- I am always on the lookout for creative storage that still looks pretty.

I found a couple lampshades for $4.00 and I loved the print- they matched with the color palette and while I did not need any lampshades, I had an idea to change them- and it worked!

Materials:

Lamp Shade
Cork Trivet
Dremel Tool
Glue (optional)

Directions:

1) Remove the metal pieces inside the lampshade with your Dremel tool, it cuts off in seconds. (No picture of me cutting it, too complicated for my clutzy self)

2) Stick cork trivet into the lampshade, it fits perfectly into what would be the top of your lampshade and will be the bottom of your storage container/basket.

And that is it- 5 minutes may be an exaggeration, probably takes two!  I chose NOT to glue mine in, I change around DIYs often, so I did not want to make it permanent, since it fits in perfectly, there really is no need to glue, but if you want to- go for it!

The storage containers really hold a ton of ribbon and other crafty materials, but I think the mini honeycomb balls look much prettier for a photo!

Fashion- Two trench coats- I have always wanted the iconic Burberry and I am also loving Anthro's new Colette trench  Someday....

Foodie- Rosemary Tomato Soup W Grilled Cheese "Fries" nom nom

Have a fab weekend everyone! Thank you for reading A Bubbly Life!! xoxo Laurel

DIY Gold Halloween Treat Bags

An impromptu post today!  One of my newest (and favorite) DIY toys is my gold leaf pen.  My Thanksgiving tablescape is a gold and white theme- so I have a lot more coming your way- and the gold leaf pen is making my life so much easier!!

When I was working on one of my Thanksgiving DIYs, I thought... why not a glam treat bag for Halloween??  While I like the spooky Halloween favors, I would love something more adult and glam for my party- and these gold treat bags are it!

It is kind of cheating, it is not really a DIY, get your bags, grab your pen and write!! (Enlist a friend with good handwriting, unlike I did ;)

I also lined the pumpkins and colored the tops with the gold leaf pen.

Fill the bags with any goodies- I personally LOVE caramel or candy apples for Halloween (a HINT to Nick, who probably wont read this anyway...) - nom, nom, nom, drool.... I am SO pregnant you guys... everything makes me hungry...

Happy Halloween!

Pork Two Ways & Win a $250 Cotsco Prize Package!

I am doing well with my original goal of one recipe a month for A Bubbly Life! Last month, I had a fig crostini and today, I am sharing TWO recipes featuring boneless pork chops!

The first recipe is a favorite of my husband's - Brie, Apple & Rosemary Stuffed Pork-  He is a sucker for anything with brie and pork is his favorite meat; words are not enough to describe his excitement on eating not only one, but two pork meals in a week.

The second recipe is my Slow Cooker Pork Peanut Butter Red Curry.  Last week, the plague some minor colds hit our house and a warm, spicy curry is one of the best, comforting foods for a cold.  Also, you barely need to do anything except add all the ingredients to a slow cooker- which when I am sick is about all I have the energy to do!

Brie, Apple & Rosemary Stuffed Pork- Serves 2

Ingredients:

2 Boneless pork chops (3/4 to 1 inch thick)
1/2 of a large apple- small dice
1 large shallot- very small dice
1/4 cup of chicken broth
6 slices of brie cheese, rind removed
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh rosemary
Salt & Pepper to taste

Directions:
Preheat oven to 425.
Saute apples for 2 minutes, add onions & chicken broth, saute for 2-3 minutes, softening the mixture.
Score any fat on pork.
Cut a deep slit in pork in the middle for filling.
Sprinkle salt, pepper and chopped rosemary on pork- including inside of slit.
Stuff 1-2 pieces of brie into pocket and fill pocket with apple & onion mixture, layering another slice of brie at end.
Insert toothpicks to close pork.
Drizzle a bit of olive oil in pan and brown pork on all sides on high heat (approximately 3-5 minutes).
Transfer to baking dish.  Bake for 25 minutes.
Let rest for 10 minutes before serving, garnish with a rosemary sprig!

Slow Cooker Pork Peanut Butter Red Curry- Serves 4

Ingredients:
2 boneless pork tenderloin chops- cut into 1 inch pieces
1 can of coconut milk
1/2 cup of Chicken broth
1/4 cup of creamy peanut butter
Splash of Fish Sauce
1 tablespoon Soy Sauce
Lime juice- about 1/2 of lime
2 Teaspoons Red Curry Paste
1/2 teaspoon Red pepper fakes
2 cloves of minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon of minced ginger
1/2 tsp minced Lemongrass

To be added in last hour of cooking:
5 Green onions, roughly chopped, reserve some thin slices for garnish
2 cups of sliced mushrooms
3 red peppers- chopped in long slivers, reserve two for garnish

*Optional- Chopped peanuts for garnish

Directions:
Add all ingredients except last three to slow cooker.
Cook on high for 4 hours, adding in the veggies the last hour of cooking.
Alternatively, you can cook on low for 7-8 hours, but I usually only have time to add to the slow cooker during my baby girl's nap :)
