Getting To Know Me!

A Bubbly Life was much more personal when I started. I shied away from the personal for awhile, so I decided to dip my foot in again and give 10 random life facts about me!

1) I met my husband when I was 17.  Nearly 16 years later, he still makes my heart flutter by walking in a room.  He also makes me want to strangle him at times.  That is what 16 years of love does. (stop doing the math to get my age ;)

2) For every DIY posted on A Bubbly Life there most likely were  2-3 DIY fails I had beforehand.

3) I was in labor for THIRTY SIX HOURS.  Labor is no freaking joke.

4) A teacup broke on me and I received 2nd degree burns completely covering both my thighs.  My neighbors heard me scream, helped me (8 came over- it was Hawaii, people are nice there) and getting into the ambulance, my pants fell down and I mooned all of them. One of the worst and funniest moments of my life.

5) I both loved and hated being an Army wife.  I miss being one more than I ever thought I would.

6) I ADORE my Grandmom.  I lost her nearly 4 years ago. My daughter's middle name is hers.  I miss her all the time and I have random moments in any given day that I am filled with a poignant sadness because I live in a world she is no longer a part of.

7)  I am Christian and pray I can be better at being so.

8) I have watched Days of our Lives since I was about 8 years old.

9) Most of the time,  I think I am a darn good Mom.  It seems like that is taboo to say for some reason.  I definitely screw up, think I am a terrible Mom at times... but mostly, I am a wonderful Mom to the best girl anyone could ask for.

10) I ended a lot of these "getting to know me" in prepositions.  I am a grammar nerd and it is really annoying me that I did that, but I decided to just go with it!

Chalkboard Bubbles Photo Party Prop DIY

Kalia's second birthday party planning is in full swing and I made these fun chalkboard bubbles for photo props.  They are SO simple to make and so cute for any party, wedding and event!

Materials:
Foamboard or Cardboard
Marker
Glue

Directions:

Quick tip- Whenever I use a roll of paper (in this case chalkboard contact paper), I lie it out flat on a table and lay some books on top of it for a couple hours.  Working with a flat piece of paper is so much easier than a paper that is constantly rolling up on you while you are working with it!

1) Stick the contact paper on top of the foam board or cardboard.

2) Outline your bubble with a marker or pen and cut out your shape with the craft knife. (embrace freehand drawing, one of mine kind of looks like a cute little whale, haha)

3) Glue at least 2 straws to the back of the bubble to make it handheld. You can also use cardboard, but the straws were so much cuter!

*Save the scrap chalkboard paper that was left out of the cut- makes a great label!!

So, for fun,  I imagined what people would say at the party...

I am SO excited for Kalia's party and have a To Do list a mile long, I will reveal the theme when I complete one major project, but if you have any guesses, let me know ;)

Hints are these chalkboard bubble photo props and the DIY Glitter Hangers !

Enjoy, please share and pin if you like it!

Upcycled Glitter Vase DIY

A very simple DIY today- a glitter can vase, or you can use it to hold anything, but I love fresh flowers around the home (and glitter!)

How to make your own glitter vase (it's so easy!!)

Materials:
Mod Podge (or any glue)
Brush
Glitter
Tin can (from soup, vegetables, etc) ( use a can opener that does not leave sharp edges)

Two Step Directions:
- Brush your mod podge onto the tin can
- Add glitter!

The great advantage of upcycling tin cans is that they are lined- it is easy to line up your brush to them and create whatever design you like.

The bright silver of the cans really makes the glitter SPARKLE!!

Enjoy! Earth Day is coming up- perfect time to upcycle some cans and create your own glitter vase or container!

Hope you enjoy- please share & pin if you do! xoxo, Laurel

DIY Jewelry Storage- Thrifty Tuesday

For the second time, I participated in the fun event- Package Pals over at C.R.A.F.T.   My package pal was Carissa at Lillies And Silk , she is a fashion blogger and so, I stalked read her fabulous blog to try and come up with ideas...

I decided to make a place for all her beautiful arm candy (bracelets) she has on in all her outfits.  It was so easy to make and I was lucky to find these matching Pier One bowls at the thrift store one day:

Making your own jewelry organizer (or use it to organize anything) is very easy to do and all my supplies were thrifted except the glue, of course!

Materials:
Two dishes or bowls
Candlestick
Liquid Nails

(I spray painted my candlestick white)

Directions:

1) Glue the smaller part of the candlestick to the middle of the large bowl, leave a heavy book on top to set for an hour.
2) Glue the small bowl on top of the candlestick, leave a heavy book on top to set for an hour.
3) You are done!  It would look great on a dresser or on your bathroom counter. Or use it in an office for storage!

Carissa's package to me was HUGE and she included all sorts of crafty things and GLITTERRR!! (clearly, she read A Bubbly Life ;)  It was so fun to get a package of crafty goodness in the mail!

I hope Carissa enjoys and can find a use for the jewelry organizer and the other goodies I included ;)

My first time around in Package Pals I did a Star Wars print for a new Momma! Check it out if you are a Star Wars fan- the printable is free- The Force is Strong With This One!

Fringe Paper Lantern Party DIY

I love paper lanterns for parties- Paper lanterns are a blank canvas for a DIYer and I like to pick them up and play around with them! (I am weird like that ;)

I did a fringe lantern inspired by my over-sized fringe heart DIY.  I have some more DIYs coming with lanterns for all your parties this Spring and Summer!

Materials
Tissue Paper
Standard Scissors
Mod Podge
Small Paintbrush

Directions:

1) Take 5 sheets of tissue paper and lay them on top of each other evenly.

2) For the long fringe lantern, I measured two inches up and cut alongside tissue paper with fringe scissors. (shorter fringe was half an inch)

3) When fringe line is completed, take standard scissors and cut above fringe line, leaving enough non-fringed space to adhere to lantern.

(Depending on the size of your lantern, you will have to repeat Steps 1-3 to get enough fringe.) (You can cut more than 5 sheets at a time, but tissue paper tends to slide, so 5 is a good number rule.)

4) Working from the bottom to the top, brush some mod podge on lantern and apply the fringe pieces to the lantern, one by one.

5) You may have to cut some large fringe pieces down for it to fit correctly on the smaller sections of the lamp. (This is not one of my standard easy DIYs, it does take quite a bit of time to cut and lay on the fringe)

I did a long fringe version and a short fringe.  I change my mind daily which one I like better, so I included both.

Check out the DIY for the confetti background here!

Check out another Paper Lantern DIY- Nursery Light

Hope you enjoy, xoxo, Laurel
